LONDON. Stuart Pearce has yesterday seen two players withdraw from his England Under-21s squad ahead of today's European Championship double-header with Iceland and Belgium.

Peterborough defender Ryan Bennett, who made his debut in the 2-1 win over Norway last month, reported with an injury on Monday and has returned to London Road for treatment, meaning he'll miss the games in Colchester and Mons.

Fulham full-back Matthew Briggs was due to meet up on Tuesday, but has remained at his club, also due to injury.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's Jon Flanagan and Everton's Ross Barkley have left the Under-21s camp near Colchester and headed south to Brighton to meet up with Noel Blake's Under-19s for their sold-out game at the new Amex Stadium against Denmark on tonight as well.

The duo will therefore miss the Under-21s Group 8 Qualifier at the Weston Homes Community Stadium this evening but will re-join Pearce's set-up after those matches for the trip to Belgium on Monday night.

The Three Lions currently sit top of the table with maximum points from their three qualifiers so far, and with Iceland ( sitting on three points) game followed swiftly on Monday by a trip to Belgium to wrap up the fixtures calendar for 2011, Pearce hopes his team can extend their advantage to earn the early Israel qualification.
